The girl who fell to earth
-Posted by: Quivi
Five minutes into meeting Gemma Ward, even in mid-conversation, I find myself actively counting the centimetres between her eyes. It could be five centimetres, it could be seven, but her eyes are so wide set it's like being drawn into the twilight zone.
Of course, Ward - who is spectacularly tall in real life - has parlayed her "alien" look into a multimillion-dollar modelling career. She is not only famous for appearing on the covers of the world's best-known magazines and sashaying down runways, she has also been linked to some high-profile men, most particularly Heath Ledger.
Ward, 20, has initially asked that there are no personal questions during the interview - her grief about Ledger, a fellow West Australian, is still raw. Instead, Ward wants to talk about her career shift into films and the early success of the Australian movie The Black Balloon in which she stars. (The film, which is released nationally on Thursday, has won the Crystal Bear for best feature in the Generation 14plus section at the Berlin Film Festival). ... Read More ...

Gemma rattles fashionistas

VOGUE India's decision to launch its title with Gemma Ward on the cover has received an unfashionable reception that has left the Aussie supermodel out of vogue with readers.
The blonde stunner shared the honour with Indian models Monikangana Dutta and Laxmi Menon - an unusual casting choice that has annoyed fashionistas around the globe.
Readers of the fashion bible have bombarded websites this week, claiming Ward shouldn't be a part of the cover shoot because she isn't Indian. ... Read More ...

Gemma Ward visits Africa
-Posted by: Quivi
The poverty-stricken streets of Africa are a far cry from the glamorous international catwalks that 19-year-old model Gemma Ward normally struts.
A recent trip to Malawi brought Ward face-to-face with the hardship many locals confront every day.
It was a life-changing experience for the young model, who now wants to raise more than $450,000 in the next four years to do her bit to make poverty history in Africa. ... Read More ...

WARD COMMITTED TO BUILDING COMMUNITY CENTRE FOR MALAWI LOCALS
-Posted by: Quivi
ContactMusic reports Australian supermodel GEMMA WARD has pledged to raise $500,000 (GBP250,000) for a community centre to help poverty-stricken locals in Malawi. The teenager recently returned from the African country after visiting Malawi with her father, a Perth doctor, and aid workers connected to charity The Hunger Project - and she immediately felt compelled to help the people she met.
She tells Sydney's Daily Telegraph newspaper, "One of the most touching experiences I had in Malawi was meeting a 17-year-old girl who lived with her 18-month-old son in a one by three-metre straw hut. "She left her husband from her first arranged marriage because she did not want to be one of his many wives."
She adds, "Visiting Malawi was one of the most inspiring experiences of my life. The people of Malawi touched and moved me with their strength, grace and pride. I was moved by the gratitude they have even in the most dire of situations."
The centre Ward hopes to help build will provide locals with better hybrid grain so they can yield better crops.

The World's Top-Earning Models
-Posted by: Quivi
In 1990, supermodel Linda Evangelista uttered what has become the most famous quote in modeling history: "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day."
She was referring to herself and fellow supermodel Christy Turlington, both of whom were a core part of the handful of models shaking up the industry by being as famous and powerful as celebrities.
Models did talk shows. They landed movie roles. They inspired franchises (the ill-fated "Fashion Café," which was part-owned by supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Elle MacPherson). They dated or married movie stars (Linda Evangelista and Kyle MacLachlan; Christy Turlington and Ed Burns; Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere). And, of course, they made millions. ... Read More ...

Yes well you can get away with a lot in a silver Balmain kaftan... Two weeks ago Fully Chic reported Milanese murmurs that Gemma Ward had been in town for show castings and felt obliged to repeat earlier industry rumours, that we had reported almost exactly one year before to the day, that Ward had not been booked for a particular SS07 show in Milan (Burberry) because of weight issues. Ward did not turn up in any SS07 Milan show. ... Read More ...
